Content is king. So, it’s only natural that content writing is regarded as one of the most important tasks for a blogger. It’s important to write content of high quality! Having said that, even high quality content is no guarantee that you will be successful.
As a blogger one of the most important things is to get traffic to your blog. It’s not that difficult to get “instant traffic” through social bookmarking and things like that, but to get long term traffic you need to take that goal into consideration when you write your blog posts. First of all, you have to know what people in your niche want to hear about. There’s absolutely no point in going on and on about something nobody cares about!
That leads us to an interesting point. How do you know what people want to know more about?
One way to know, is to check forums, blogs and websites in the niche. That gives you a pretty decent idea of what’s hot in your niche right now.
What’s hot right now, however, might not be hot in 4 or 5 years. I know that’s pretty far into the future, but I want you to think about writing content that will provide valuable information today and several years from now. You should, in other words, write content that falls into the “evergreen” category. By writing that kind of content consistently you’ll slowly build a steady stream of traffic that will only keep growing.
If you need inspiration for your content you should consider writing your content based on keywords. I’m not going to lie to you, this blog post is actually written based on a keyword. In this case, the keyword is “write content.” I found this keyword through a keyword research tool.
A keyword research tool helps you find keywords that are used as search terms in the search engines. A good tool will give an overview of how often a certain keyword is used. The best tool I know is the Google External Keyword tool, which also happens to be free!
By basing the content you write for your blog on keywords you have found with a keyword tool you ensure that you will eventually get traffic from the search engines. How to decide which keywords are good and, which are bad is a topic for another day. However, if you write content for your blog based on a certain keyword you will eventually get search engine traffic for your blog.
