Are There Differences Between Writing For Blogs And Writing For Other Types Of Media?

Writing Add comments

A blog is a special kind of website right? Well, kind of. You see a blog is a far more personal media than just about anything else. That means there are some things you can do in a blog that you wouldn’t for say a sales page or a product review. You can be far more personal on blogs. In fact, you can write like you talk. That doesn’t mean you should write blog posts with thousands of spelling mistakes or so many grammar mistakes that it will make your second grade teacher cringe!

Writing Blog Posts With A Personal Tone

One of the great things about blog posts are that you can make them personal. In fact, since a blog is basically your online diary about a specific topic you are somewhat expected to be up close and personal about what you write. That doesn’t mean you can’t have blog posts that cover serious topics or are written in a serious academic style. I actually believe that it’s best to mix it up a bit.

Write Proper English!

Even though you can, to some degree, write as you talk on your blog, please try to keep it clean. Make sure there are no spelling mistakes and typos. You should also do your best to make the grammar stick. Even though it’s great to read your personal opinion about something most people prefer to actually be able to understand what is written on your blog. The next bit is a matter of personal style, however, I prefer to keep the profanity to a minimum. A lot of people don’t like to read blog posts with great amounts of profanity in them.

Writing Blog Posts Is Not A Chore

If you think that writing blog posts is a chore then you should stop. Today! If you don’t like blogging it will show in your blog posts. The truth is you will probably not get many readers if the few readers you do get can tell that you hate writing blog posts. I love writing and blogging is a great way to share my writing. So, don’t expect me to stop blogging anytime soon.

So, in conclusion. Keep it clean. Keep it personal. And keep it fun!
